Below is more information about three of the units that are taught at the Catholic Discipleship College.
 
Unit 2. The Father’s Unconditional Love
 
Learning Outcomes:
  1. Familiarity with the scriptural foundations for God’s unconditional love
  2. A growing ease with Trinitarian prayer, marked by dialogue with each of the three persons
  3. A more realistic acceptance and forgiveness of the hurts inherited from parents, siblings and authority figures
  4. Ability to identify and express performance driven aspects of personality, and being able to let go of them progressively
Content:
  1.  The Father’s incessant covenant of love and forgiveness as seen in the OldTestament
  2. Jesus’ relationship to His Father: elements of trust, surrender, empowerment and self-sacrifice for the mission
  3. Bases for the ‘father wound’ and co-dependency in many dysfunctional families, but also from perceived hurts
  4. The many instruments of forgiveness in our graced world, and especially the sacrament of reconciliation
 
Unit 5. Eucharist – Heart of the Liturgy
 
Learning Outcomes:
  1. Growing desire and ability to stay in the loving presence of Jesus in the Eucharist
  2. Ability to explain the structure and theological movement of the Mass
  3. Ability to describe the key elements of liturgy as formulated by the documents of Vatican II
  4. More frequent and fruitful reception of the sacraments 
Content:
  1.  An exposition of the key elements and historic changes in Vatican II’s Sacrosanctum Concilium
  2. The difference between sign and symbol; the dynamic power of symbols
  3. Eucharist as meal, sacrifice, creator of community and pledge of eternity
  4. How the graces of Eucharist are explicated in the other sacraments of initiation, healing and service
 
Unit 13. Scripture the Heart of Christian Life
 
Learning Outcomes:
  1. To implant in each participant a love of the Bible and to use it as a prime source for their spiritual lives
  2. To ensure that each participant can explain how Catholic understandings of inspiration, inerrancy and historical truth differ from fundamentalist approaches
  3. To enable participants to distinguish between different literary genres such as historical, wisdom and prophetic writings in the Bible
 
Content:
  1. Division of the Bible into different literary genres and the characteristics of each
  2. The shape of Old Testament history and how the Hebrew scriptures were formed; basis of the canon
  3. Main themes of the prophets and wisdom literature
  4. Inspiration, inerrancy, and historical truth in the Bible
