The vision of the CDC is to form disciples in a community of holiness and learning; spanning generations and cultures; sensitive and faithful to the teaching of the Catholic Church. In a time when many families are torn and uncertain, beset by secular and non-Christian values, the purpose of the CDC is to offer spiritual and intellectual formation, pastoral care, prayer and friendship, enabling members to know their identity in Christ Jesus for their ongoing life in the Church and in the world. This vision will encourage all to wait humbly on our Father, trusting and open to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, confident in the knowledge that God can do all things.
The CDC sees itself as a response to Pope John Paul II's challenge for the new millennium when he asked the Church to help bring about a new civilisation of love and service, with a passionate commitment to justice for all. It will aim to achieve this by equipping members to bring the enduring love of Jesus more effectively to those they encounter; to create a uniquely kiwi way of evangelising, one modelled and blessed by Mary, Queen of Southern Skies.
Central to this vision is seeing the youth of our Church as a precious resource, to be challenged and tested but even more to be nurtured and helped to grow in virtue and competence. To reach this goal, the CDC desires to complement and support other youth and diocesan initiatives in the hope that all will achieve a richer and deeper base for the work of each in the ministry of the Church to the world.
Therefore,
Our Mission is to provide Christian formation to our participants in an environment of Catholic spirituality, prayer, scripture, study and community life. We aim to equip and call our young people into active and responsible participation in the life and mission of the Church.
